Artifex De Color — IKAT

About the project

Artifex De Color is a professional brand of paints and coatings. This project involved developing packaging and label design for the IKAT acrylic water-based paint line in formats for the front and back of a 20 kg bucket. The central design solution is the use of ikat ornamentation as the visual language of the product. Ikat — a traditional Uzbek resist-dyed textile with centuries of history — became a metaphor for paint: just as the threads of ikat fabric create a complex, living pattern, paint creates character and color in a space. The undulating band of ornamentation flowing across the dark bucket surface functions simultaneously as a decorative element and as a demonstration of the product's potential — paint in motion, paint as art. The black bucket is an intentional departure from the typical white or light packaging of construction paints. This solution instantly distinguishes the product on the shelf and reads as a professional, premium line. Golden horizontal lines and a beige stripe establish the label structure and add a sense of jewelry-like precision to the design. The Artifex De Color logo with its signature sphere mark, "New Formula" and "Professional Edition" badges, and clear typography of key characteristics — "Facade | Interior | Washable" — are organized in a hierarchy that works both at arm's length in a store and in close-up detail. The back of the bucket contains complete technical text in Uzbek and Russian, formatted within a unified brand system.
